Happy 1 year!

July 4th was my one year anniversary with Los Angeles. Yup! I flew into LA on July 4th 2012, and started my adventures.. I wanted to tribute this post to reminiscing on all the fun things I've done so far.. It's crazy to even think that it's already been a year!

1/ Watching dance videos on YouTube was and still is a big part of my lifestyle. Back when I lived in HK and NY, my friends and I would "fan girl" over America's Best Dance Crew winners, and YouTube famous choreographers, and aspire to create something as great as them. Working with my good friend Jon and World of Dance gave me the most wonderful opportunity to be in the midst of the LA dance action!

2/ Then not long after I moved to LA, I met this guy, who's changed my life for the better.

3/ I went home and danced in a commercial with my sister for Nikon! The camera crew set up loud speakers outside on the streets of HK and had me dance in public while it was raining! Erin got to hold a Nikon camera and pretend to videotape me dancing. Check it out here!

4/ Of course we can't forget Maddie joining the fam!! Such a cutie!!!!

5/ I taught two dance workshops back home. After being in LA for a few months, it was nice to finally be able to share my experiences with teens that are in my position when I was their age - watching YouTube videos and dreaming of that day to travel to LA and dance.

6/ One of my favorite things about being in LA - I got to tag along to photograph behind the scenes of this music video!.. Unfortunately I can't show more photos from this video shoot but lets just say it was awesome :)

7/ Friends visited and had a blast with dolphins.. I just had to include this in my recap! We went to the beach, not realizing it was going to be super overcast. We brought dolphins that we had won from the arcade the night before and jumped around in the sand.

8/ Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets... Coming from a polluted city like HK, you hardly see so many jaw-dropping sunsets. and every night, I get to look out my apartment window, breathe in the fresh air, and stare at that beauty.

9/ I finally put up a dance video! But I haven't since... That'll be my next project.

10/ Started my job at Sony Pictures selling movies globally.

11/ Traveling - even if it's just a quick drive to San Fran or San Diego. It's always nice to get away for a bit. :)

12/ Celebrated July 4th and my 1 year anniversary with LA on a Cruise in Boston with my parents and friends, and ended the night watching the fireworks.

Sometimes I look back and I think, wow I didn't do anything! But putting this post together really helped me put my year into perspective.

What have you been up to this year?

Welcome to HEY YEH!

Hello and welcome to Hey Yeh! A lifestyle blog written by us three, the Yeh sisters from Hong Kong.  We love to share our passions including fashion, food, photography, dance and culture!
Hey Yeh has taken a small makeover and is now new and improved. Maybe we can start out with some introductions.

-----
Hi! I'm Courtney, raised in Hong Kong, youngest of three, and currently residing in Los Angeles. A month before graduating college in the blizzards of New York, I decided (on an impulse) to move to sunny California to be closer to the arts and entertainment. Erin (my older sis) and I both work for Sony Pictures Entertainment selling movies globally. But the cool thing is... We're in the same department half way across the world. :)
I started this blog back in college as a place where I can share my daily happenings with my family. Then it grew to become a blog where my friends enjoyed it when I posted about interesting finds of fashion, art, photography and design.
LOVE to dance - mostly hip-hop and contemporary, sometimes a little African and a little Tap. I love the camera, whether it be photographs, videos, Polaroids, or even choosing filters on Instagram. I probably have around 15 different photo apps on my phone... I also really enjoy graphic design and continue to freelance part-time as a designer and artist.

Hi! I'm Erin, the middle sister (I'd like to point out that I somehow did not get middle child syndrome). I was born and raised in Hong Kong, followed by a brief stint of six years in Boston and New York, but ultimately deciding to make my way back home to be closer to the family. Yup, as Court said,  I also work at Sony Pictures and very much enjoy sharing Hollywood films  across Asia.
Hey Yeh was originally Courtney's blog, she later invited Trisha and I to join since both of us share her passion and appreciation for design and art.  Courtney felt that we could contribute interesting pieces of happenings on the other side of the world.  Among other things, I like to photograph culture, particularly images that capture the daily lives of people, the little things we walk by everyday that go unnoticed, and especially the quickly disappearing old architecture and details on the streets that make Hong Kong quintessentially Hong Kong.  On a side note, Courtney and I just became aunties a year ago to a ridiculously cute and beautiful niece, and my camera seems to have turned its focus to her... so, drop by and check her out ;)

I’m Trisha, the eldest of the Hey Yeh sisters, and I’ve been invited as a “guest blogger” to contribute occasionally to the blog. Though I did grow up with the Internet, I wouldn’t consider myself the most Internet savvy individual, so my experience with blogging is pretty much very limited to none… or maybe I’m just an old soul ;) Perhaps “guest blogger” was just a nice way for Courtney to say that I’m actually on a trial basis here. Haha :)
I’m a freelance writer based in Hong Kong, and do copywriting and translation work for a variety of clients, mostly in the fashion and lifestyle areas. I was a studio art major in college, so I love art, design, and photography, though I feel that all my photographic work of late consists mostly of iPhone snaps of my 1-year-old daughter, Madison. I look forward to exploring the world of blogging through this platform that Courtney has set up and rediscovering my creative side!

Welcome to our little corner on the internet, made not only to stay close, but to share the things we love from two very different cities.

about us

Hello friends! Welcome to Hey Yeh, a space to find inspiration for crafts, photography, recipes, decor and other favorite things from the Yeh sisters.

btw, "Yeh" is pronounced "yay". :)

In 2008, while Courtney was still studying at Syracuse U, she started Hey Yeh to keep her family and friends from back home (Hong Kong) up to date with what she was doing.  Slowly, it became a platform to share her passions and hobbies with her friends and other artists that love the same things. And then, Courtney decided that it would be a great idea if Erin (her sister) would accompany her in sharing their passions.

Separated by the huge pacific ocean, Erin currently lives in Hong Kong and Courtney lives in Los Angeles. They stay connected through Whatsapp, Skype, Hey Yeh and work (they both work in the same dept at Sony)!

be right back!

Hey! I'm redesigning my blog...
Yup, Hey Yeh is getting a major facelift right now.
We'll be right back with an awesome new design and a whole new theme.
Check back some time in July for the relaunch of our blog!

In the mean time, feel free to follow me on Instagram and Pinterest to see what projects I'm currently working on.

THE ZOO

I love the zoo. I can stand in front of the monkeys for hours just watching them goof around, hang from the cage and try to get food. The San Diego Zoo is probably one of my favorites I have been to so far. But both times my friends and I were there, we've gotten lost and went from the the monkeys to the aviary and back to the monkeys, then back to the aviary.
The first time we went, we saw a mother Jaguar protecting her cubs, growling at the kids that were knocking on the window.
The is by far my favorite photo of the bunch - a Chinese Snow Leopard, staring straight into my camera.

monkeys are so smart!
