A Trip to the Desert

We took a road trip to Joshua Tree this weekend. Though it's only the beginning of February it was close to 80F during the day and as you can see from my super blue photos there was not a cloud in the sky. We went with our friends Christie and Derek and stayed at an awesome geo-dome, which you've probably seen on Instagram. We spent the morning driving through the park, then headed down to check out Salvation Mountain and watched the sunset by the Salton Sea. Will be posting some photos inside the Dome soon! :)

Leatheralls

Hi guys! Been quite busy lately giving Hey Yeh a big makeover. We're switching over to a new and improved platform soon and I'm super excited to launch it! The design I want is super specific so I decided to tackle it myself with the help of my awesome tech guy/brother-in-law, Tim!

I wanted to take some time out to show you guys my latest fashion find - these awesome leather overalls. Super comfy, stretchy and funky. These are for the days where you want to look put together, but you don't want to put too much effort into it. :)

DIY Marbled Jewelry Tray

I love DIY, but I'm usually too lazy (and busy) to go find materials and test things out. Somehow I feel like my hands aren't dainty enough to create things out of scratch. So we teamed up with Brit+Co and Rocksbox to bring you this awesome DIY: the Marbled Jewelry Tray Kit. Grab a kit for yourself and keep scrolling to see how we put these pretty marbled trays together! It's super easy!

Materials
white oven-bake clay
colorful oven-bake clay
gold paint pen
(easy as that – all three are included in the Brit kit!)

Tools (not included in kit)
Butter knife
Baking Tray

Break off one section of white and one section of colored clay and twist them around each other.

Keep twisting and kneading your clay until you have an evenly dispersed, marbled pattern and flatten it into a circle measuring about three inches in diameter.

Grab one more section of white clay, flatten it into another circle of about the same size and layer it underneath your marbled circle.

Using a butter knife, carefully trim off the uneven edges of your two-layer clay circle and then pinch the edges of your clay circle upwards so that it forms a lip all the way around.

Repeat for your second larger tray, using two white sections plus two pink sections for the marbled layer and two white sections for the white bottom layer, and bake in a 275º Fahrenheit oven for about 25 minutes.

Once cooled, paint the edges of each tray with your gold paint pen.

Tada!

Which color will you choose? Make your own set of here!

(Pan)Tone it Down

I’m not usually drawn to pastel colors as much but I couldn’t resist jumping on the Pantone colors of the year bandwagon. Part of the reason why I love this years color choice is that they were inspired by the trend of seeking mindfulness and wellbeing. I can get behind that! Anyway, I thought it would be fun to find ways to spruce up the home with just a bit of the Rose Quartz and Serenity, using them as accent colors. I thought that this would help to make them more accessible to a minimalist fiend like me.

Serenity in the City

During my time in Hong Kong, my friend Jenn (@thatworkinglife) and I decided to catch up over a visit to the Chi Lin Nunnery, which supposedly we visited together during our 5th grade field trip (I don't remember that at all). It was nice to come back and appreciate how beautiful and calm this place is. My favorite part was how you can see the high rises hovering over the temple, but couldn't hear the bustling city (see the last photo). One of my hopes for this year is to save money and travel more. We have a few trips planned during the beginning of this year and I am super excited for it! Do you have any goals for this year?
